1066 - William the Conqueror was crowned king of England.
1223 - St. Francis of Assisi assembled one of the first Nativity scenes, in Greccio, Italy.
1776 - George Washington crossed the Delaware River and surprised the Hessians.
1821 - The founder of the American Red Cross, Clara Barton, was born in Oxford, Mass.
1926 - Hirohito became emperor of Japan, succeeding his father, Emperor Yoshihito.
1977 - British film actor, director, and producer Charlie Chaplin died in Switzerland at age 88.
1989 - Ousted Romanian President Nicolae Ceausescu and his wife, Elena, were executed.
1991 - Mikhail Gorbachev resigned following the disintegration of the Soviet Union.

Well. It seems to me that after that LAST bit of tidbit, the fact that Jesus was born in 6BC and the part about the first chick to play football is it a bit of an anti-climax. :o) And I can't agree with Joseph more. It is in our calendar... :oD
